I truly believe that the hot summers in the South are God’s way of telling us, we wouldn’t enjoy hell.  I try to live right ,but what exactly is that.  Everyone’s idea of “living right” varies.  I know the Bible tells certain things but to be honest I don’t have time to look for everyone of those ideas. 

People say it’s harder to do wrong ,but I don’t believe that either.  The world we live in makes it difficult at times, but that’s when we must be strong.  Our weaknesses will allow us to be consumed with what the entertainment industry is made of.

How sad to be so naive

Everytime I would reach my four year old hands for her in her crib , she’d scream.  We’d fight over the front seat in my mother’s car.  But anytime anyone tried to harm her, I’d scream at them.  Of course, my little sister and I haven’t always gotten along ,but we are now facing the most difficult strength test.

I recently found out that my sister is pregnant.  This isn’t just any ordinary pregnancy in my eyes.  It is one that was not well thought out and involves a 19 year old girl with no money and no plan.  It also involves a 25 year old man who already has two children. 

I called my mother and when she said, “Are you sitting down?”  I knew that my sister was pregnant.  I zoomed down to my mother’s house and confronted her.  She wouldn’t get out of the car.  I was loud.  I was scary.  I was mad as hell!  How dare she dissapoint our family like this?  Who is this loser that fucks 19 year olds?  And what’s his name?  When will I have the opportunity to run over him?  All of these question were running through my mind.  If I would have gotten a hold of her, I would be in jail right now!

What people fail to understand is that when teenagers get pregnant, alot of the responsibility rests on their parents.  How will she pay for healthcare when she only works part-time and has no benefits?  If her “sperm-donor” already has two children, where will he the money from to help her with her child?  When will she have time to finish school?  Will she become dependant on the “system.”  What are her goals now?

I was extremely upset and I do understand that it is her decision to make.  I wish she would give the baby up for adoption or have an abortion.  I do believe in abortion.  How many of us have had one?  She is not ready mentally, physically or financially to have a child.   She is not mature. 

My question is how do we prevent this?  I just realized that we can’t.  The only thing we can do is show them the many paths to success by following them.  Why does it seem like everytime I look up another teenager is pregnant?  Couldn’t they just find a toy or another hobby?  What is the big deal with sex and teenagers?  Clearly, it needs to be addressed at the national level.

Young girls can be successful with a child ,but those who are have to have a plan and actually follow a path.  I do not want young girls or young adults to expect “handouts” from the government that were meant for people with challenges in their life. Section 8, welfare and EBT cards seem to be the only words that some express in their vocabulary.  I’ve heard many say, “Well, Imma gon ahead and have another cuz I don’t gotta do shit.”  I’m serious!  When will this lack of planning and responsibility dwindle?

The other night as I drove back from the club , I had a deep conversation with some friends of mine. First let me say whenever I leave a club or a party, I have the tendency to sing church songs.   But we aren’t talking about my transgressions we’re talking about “chuch” as some like to call it.  I attend a church with less than 1000 members.  Some attend church with 10,000 members.   If you see a huge church with a parking deck and police officers directing traffic, chances are it’s a megachurch.  There are a few in the Charlotte area.  One that first came to mind was University Park Baptist Church near Beattis Ford Road.  Beattis Ford is known to be an area of prominence and poverty.  Only a small intersection divides the two.  Why is this?  Clearly neighborhoods like Hyde Park are not viewed as Beattis Ford, but something better.  University Park is deep in the Beattis Ford jungle, yet what impact has it had on the people?  Not only is University Park close by, Friendship Missionary Baptist Church is also.  I mean on Sundays consider walking to church because traffic is held up.  This isn’t a bad thing that this many people got up to attend church on Sundays but for what reason?  As we were discussing the demographics of the area, a question popped into my mind.  What are these churches doing for the communities?  Of course, nearly every church has a “ministry” dedicated to the preservation of the community but has it impacted the community significantly?  Is crime decreasing, are there less drug users or less teenage pregnancies?  The only way to examine this question is to list the facts.  University Park became an official megachurch in 2001 after its membership had reached 4000 and it relocated into a larger building.  Since then how many sinners have walked into the doors and been forgiven?  Just like a school is judged by the scores of its students, a church should be examined by its affects on the community.  It’s a question that will take a little time for me to research.  This bit was food for thought to get my mind rolling.  So is the only way to get into heaven through the doors of a megachurch?  Of course not!  Megachurches have the means and the populations to work miracles but do they?  Let me know what you think?
